You must use two 8T-5096 Dial Indicators at the same time. Moving one dial indicator from one test point to another test point will result in inaccurate results. Position one of the magnetic base dial indicators to the bottom of the upper structure with the indicator points in the center of the bolt hole (3). Refer to Illustrations 2 and 3. Install the second magnetic base dial indicator through the 110 mm (4.33 inch) hole (4) in the upper structure. This is also the location of the hydraulic oil drain. Zero both dial indicators.
Use 6V-2012 Depth Micrometer (inch) or 6V-7030 Micrometer Depth Gauge Group (metric) in order to measure the stud length that protrudes from below the upper structure. Record the measurements for each stud in the worksheet that is shown in Table 2.
Tighten the two front 8T-4131 Nuts evenly to 460 60 N m (340 44 lb ft) on the studs that replaced the front mounting bolts. Do not use an impact wrench for tightening these nuts and bolts as this will cause an incorrect reading. Record the readings from the dial indicators in the worksheet that is shown in Table 2. Measure the stud length that protrudes from below the upper structure. Subtract the measurements in Step 7 from these readings and record the difference in the worksheet that is shown in Table 2. The maximum allowable movement is 2 mm (0.079 inch). If the measurements are less than 2 mm, remove the studs from locations (1) and (2) in Illustration 3 and reinstall the original bolts. Torque the bolts to 460 60 N m (340 44 lb ft). If the measurements are more than the allowable movement, it will be necessary to install shims. If dirt or debris is packed between the upper structure and the tank, it may be necessary to remove the tank for cleaning prior to installation of the shims.
It is possible to install the shims on a clean machine without removing the tank assembly. Refer to the text below ""Shim Installation on a Clean Machine"" for instructions.
Drain fuel and hydraulic oil into suitable containers. Remove the tank assembly per the instructions in the service manual. Use a pressure washer and/or solvents for cleaning the bottom of the tank assembly. Inspect the bottom of the tank for any leaks or cracks. Make repairs to the tank as necessary prior to the installation of the shims. Clean the area of the tank assembly that attaches to the upper structure. It may also be necessary to clean the bottom of the upper structure.
