Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove and Install".
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is approximately 45 L (11.8 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Extended Life Coolant - Change" for the machine that is being serviced.

Remove bolts (1) and bracket (2). Disconnect hoses (3) .
Loosen clamps (4). Remove hose (5) and bolt (6) .

Loosen bolts (7) in order to adjust pulley (8). Move belt (9) to the side.
Remove bolts (10) and water pump (11) .Installation Procedure

Position water pump (11) on the engine and install bolts (10) .
Position belt (9) in the original location on pulley (8) .
Adjust the belt tension. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".
Tighten bolts (7) .

Install bolt (6) and hose (5). Tighten clamps (4) .
Connect hoses (3). Install bracket (2) and bolts (1).
Fill the cooling system. The capacity of the cooling system is approximately 45 L (11.8 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Extended Life Coolant - Change" for the machine that is being serviced.End By: Install the alternator.
