At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Look at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink. Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
1. Drain the coolant from the engine in a suitable container for storage or disposal. Put identification on all lines, hoses and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent foreign material from entering the system. 2. Remove bolts (1), washers and nuts that hold turbocharger tube (2) to the aftercooler housing. 3. Loosen clamps (3) on both sides of turbocharger tube (2). 4. Rotate turbocharger tube (2) out of the way. 5. Remove three bolts (5), washers and clips that hold wire assembly (4) and set wire assembly (4) out of the way.6. Install Tooling (A), lifting straps and a hoist to the aftercooler.7. Remove 11 bolts (6) and washers that hold the aftercooler and remove the aftercooler housing from the engine. The following steps are for installing the aftercooler housing.8. Install new O-ring seals on the aftercooler water inlet and outlet pipes. Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil. Put new gaskets in position on the cylinder head assembly.9. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to the aftercooler housing, and put the aftercooler housing in position on the water pipes and cylinder head assembly.10. Put 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads of the bolts, and install the bolts that hold the aftercooler housing to the cylinder head assembly.11. Rotate the turbocharger tube in position. Place a gasket between the aftercooler housing and adapter, and install four bolts and nuts that hold it. Tighten the turbocharger clamp nut to a torque of 18 3 N m (13 2 lb ft). Lightly hit all around the clamp with a soft faced hammer, and tighten the clamp nut again to the same torque value. Refer to the Topic "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" in the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the proper filling procedure and the proper levels for the hydraulic system and the cooling system.End By:a. install fuel filter & base
