Information:
27. Remove race (36) from the cam. 28. Remove rollers (37) and springs (38) from cam (39). 29. Remove ring (40) and race (41) from the stator. 30. Remove cam (39) from the stator. 31. Remove retainer (42), bearing (43) and the race from the torque converter. 32. Put housing (44) and the turbine in position on a press. The weight of the housing and turbine are 41 kg (90 lb).33. Use a press and tool (C) to remove the turbine from housing (44). 34. Remove bolts (45) and hub (46) from the turbine. 35. Remove rings (47) and (48) from hub (46). 36. Remove ring (49) from the housing. 37. Remove plate (50) from the housing. 38. Remove disc (51) from the housing. 39. Install two 1/4" - 20 NC eyebolts (53) in piston (52) as shown.40. Remove piston (52) from the housing. 41. Remove ring (54) from the piston. 42. Remove ring (55) from the housing. 43. Use a press and tool (D) to remove the bearing from the housing.Assemble Torque Converter
Before the torque converter is assembled, see Specifications for correct clearances. These clearances must be correct for the torque converter to operate with efficiency. Use acceptable inside and outside micrometers and other necessary equipment to measure the components.
1. Install ring (55) in the housing. 2. Install ring (54) on piston (52). 3. Install two 1/4" - 20 NC eyebolts (56) in piston (52) as shown.4. Install piston (52) in the housing as shown. 5. Install disc (51) in the housing. 6. Install ring (57) and ring (49) in the housing. 7. Install ring (47) and ring (48) in the hub. 8. Install hub (46) on turbine (58) with bolts (45). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 49 3 N m (36 2 lb ft). 9. Install turbine (58) in the housing. Make sure the hub and the disc are in alignment. 10. Install race (59), retainer (42) and bearing (43) in the turbine.11. Heat the stator to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F) for approximately four minutes and lower the temperature of cam (39). There is an identification on the cam that shows "impeller side". Make sure when the cam is installed in the stator that the impeller side of cam will face the impeller in the housing. 12. Install cam (39) in the stator. 13. Install race (41) and ring (40) on the stator. 14. Install race (36) in the stator. 15. Install springs (38) and rollers (37) in the cam with the springs in the deeper part of each cam groove as shown. The springs must be installed with the maximum number of loops toward the outside (cam side). After the springs and rollers are installed, the stator must turn freely in a counterclockwise direction but not in a clockwise direction. If the stator does not turn counterclockwise, the springs and rollers have been installed incorrectly. 16. Install race (35) and ring (34) on the stator. 17. Install stator (33)
