You must read and understand the warnings and instructions contained in the Safety section of this manual before performing any operation or maintenance procedures.Transmission Oil
Change the Oil
Operate the engine long enough to warm the oil. The machine must be level. Lower the blade to the ground and apply slight down pressure.Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine. 1. Remove the transmission drain plug and drain the oil.2. Change the filter element. See the topic Transmission under Every 500 Service Hours or 3 Months.
Use care when removing the magnetic strainer cover. The contents are under 10 N m (7 lb ft) spring pressure.
3. Remove the magnetic strainer cover.4. Remove the magnetic strainer assembly.5. Wash the tube and the screen in a clean, nonflammable solvent.6. Clean the magnets with a cloth, a stiff bristle brush or pressure air.
Do not drop or rap the magnets against any hard objects. Replace any damaged magnets.
7. Clean the cover and inspect the seal. Replace the seal, if it is damaged.8. Insert the magnets in the screen.9. Insert the screen, tube and magnets in the housing.10. Install the cover. Tighten the cover bolts.11. Clean and install the transmission drain plug. 12. Open the access cover behind the cab. 13. Fill the transmission with oil through the fill tube. See the Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities chart. 14. Remove torque converter breather (1) and transmission breather (2).15. Wash the breathers in a clean, nonflammable solvent.16. Install the breathers.17. Start the engine. Apply the service brake.18. Slowly operate the transmission controls to circulate the oil.19. Move the transmission control lever to NEUTRAL. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine. 20. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark on the dipstick. Add oil if necessary.21. Close the access covers.Drive Shaft Support Bearing

Lubricate the fittings
Lubricate one fitting on the upper pivot bearing. Lubricate one fitting on the lower pivot bearing.Rollover Protection Structure (ROPS)
Inspect
1. Remove the access covers on each side of the machine. 2. Look for any loose or damaged bolts. Replace damaged bolts or missing bolts with original equipment parts only. Retighten bolts to a torque of: 100 15 N m (75 11 lb ft) for 1/2 inch bolts.360 50 N m (270 37 lb ft) for 3/4 inch bolts.570 80 N m (420 60 lb ft) for 7/8 inch bolts.875 100 N m (640 75 lb ft) for 1 inch bolts.1100 150 N m (800 100 lb ft) for 1.12 inch bolts.3. Install the access covers.Replace ROPS mounting supports if the ROPS rattles or makes a noise when the machine is operated on a rough surface.Do not straighten or repair by welding reinforcement plates to the ROPS.Contact your Caterpillar dealer for repair of cracks in welds, castings or any metal section on the ROPS.
