No change is necessary to the retainer to install the new seal groups (Service Kits) on the 120G, 130G, 140G and 12G Motor Graders.
The 14G Motor Grader needs a retainer which is thicker but has the original inside diameter. The thicker retainer plate will put less of a load on the bolts. With the thicker 6G4081 Retainer, use the longer S1652 Bolts. The retainer and the longer bolts are part of the 6G4430 Seal Group.

Location of new parts in 8D2785 Final Drive Group of 16G Motor Grader.The 6G4440 Seal Group for the 16G Motor Grader has a 6G1954 Retainer (16 bolt holes) to put less load on the bolts for the retainer. Sixteen 1D4609 Bolts and 2S115 Washers are needed with the new retainer. Use a 6G3214 Shim Pack with this retainer. The 9D8773 Housing (inner) must be machined to the dimensions shown in Illustration 2 to permit the use of the new 6G1954 Retainer or a new 6G1971 Housing can be installed.
Specifically, on the 16G Motor Grader, if it is necessary to install a new 6G1971 on 9D8773 Housing (16 bolt holes), it is our recommendation that the 6G4450 Seal Group (Service Kit) which has the new 20-bolt parts be installed instead. The bolts that hold the retainers on the 16G Motor Graders have more load on them than any of the other motor graders. The 20 bolts now used on the retainer will reduce the load for each bolt.
Illustration 2. Machine 9D8773 Housing as shown to use 6G1954 Retainer.The former inner housing on all models are canceled and, if ordered, the new inner housing and retainer will be shipped. The new retainer and shim packs used in production can only be used with the new inner housing.
When repairs are made for oscillation seal leaks, install new radial oscillation bearing (rings). The part numbers of the bearings did not change and they are part of each seal group. One shim pack is needed per joint. Use only the shims necessary to get the correct end-play.
Special attention should be given to the seal groove and contact area on the outer housing. All rough areas must be removed from the seal groove and contact area before the final drive group is assembled. Put a heavy application of multipurpose-type grease, which has 3% to 5% molybdenum disulfide on the seal groove and contact area.
