Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the valve lifter assembly.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Mark the exhaust valve lifter (2) and the intake valve lifter (4) for proper installation.
Use a rubber mallet in order to remove the exhaust valve lifter (2), the intake valve lifter (4), and the gas admission valve lifter (3) from the guide (1).

Valve lifter guide springs may be installed on the valve lifters only once. If a valve lifter guide spring is removed from a valve lifter, the valve lifter guide spring must be replaced with a new valve lifter guide spring. If the valve lifter guide spring is not removed from the valve lifter, the valve lifter can be replaced in the original location without replacing the valve lifter guide spring.
Inspect the valve lifter bores in the valve guide (1) for wear.
Ensure that the lubrication passages in the valve lifter guide are not obstructed.
Inspect each lifter body for wear.

Inspect the roller (8) and the roller (13) for damage and looseness on the shaft.
Press the pin (7) out of the body (6) and the roller (8).
Press the pin (11) out of the body (12) and the roller (13). Note: For the gas admission valve lifter, position the assembly in the press with the wire (15) on the bottom.Note: Place shims (A) between the lifter and the roller when the pin is removed. This is necessary in order to prevent the forks on the lifter from bending. Refer to Illustration 6.
Remove the spring clips (5).

Remove the O-ring (9) and the insert (10) from the body (6).

If necessary, press the adapter (15) out of the valve guide (1).
Ensure that the lubrication passages in the lifter body (3) are not obstructed.
