12/14/81SERVICE MAGAZINE, NOVEMBER 16, 1981, PAGE 7.In the article "Locating Special Instructions Quickly And Easily Using Microfiche," change the form number reference for the "Codes For The Service Management Control System All Products" to SEBD3456-01.--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------New and revised Special Instructions are added to the Special Instructions' Microfilm Library every two months. The following tips can help simplify locating current issues using microfiche.
To find the most current issue when you don't know the new form number but do know the old form number, refer to the last fiche of the library, the Index. Form numbers in the Index are listed in numeric sequence (not alpha-numeric - strictly numeric). The Index lists each Special Instruction's form number, fiche number and grid location. Asterisks preceding some of the form numbers denote the status of those particular Special Instructions: * Indicates a new Special Instruction.** Indicates a canceled Special Instruction which has not been replaced and is not available in paper form.*** Indicates a canceled Special Instruction which has been replaced by an update.
No asterisk indicates the form number shown is the most current.
While three asterisks indicate an updated or revised issue, the form number given in the Index is that of the canceled issue. However, the fiche and grid information shows the correct location for the updated issue, so you must check there for the most current issue and form number. Normally, you can verify currency by checking the bottom right hand corner of the current issue which should state the new form number and underneath it, in parentheses, he word "formerly" and the old form number. To find a Special Instruction when you don't know the form number and don't have a part number reference, refer to Service Management Bulletin No. M-4, Form No. SEBF3005 or Codes For The Service Management Control System All Products, Form No. SEBD3456-01. Once you've found the correct SMCS code for the component in question, check the list of available Special Instructions under that code in the Component Code List fiche.
Alternatively, if you do have a part number reference, check column 3 of the appropriate NPR fiche for a listing of current Special Instructions. A good rule of thumb is to check the NPR listings when you have a part number reference, especially one whose source is a paper Parts Book.
