1693, D343, D346, D348 And D349 EnginesThere have been reports from the field that dealer personnel do not clearly understand the "V" marks on the tops of pistons which have Keystone-type rings.
Do not use the "V" mark as a reference during the installation of pistons which have Keystone-type rings in these engines.
The "V" mark was originally used for correct alignment of valve pockets during the installation of pistons which have rectangular rings. The "V" mark is currently on pistons which have Keystone-type rings, but it has no purpose because the valve pockets are the same size and shape. Also, the location of the "V" mark is not acceptable for any alignment purposes.
