Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
For easier assembly, mark all hose assemblies, tube assemblies, wire harnesses, and cables for identification purposes.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Illustration 1 g00596608
The V-belts are under tension from the spring. If the wrench slips while releasing the belt tension, personal injury may result. Be sure the wrench is properly engaged with the belt tightener.
Release the tension on six V-belts (1) by rotating belt tightener (2) with a suitable wrench. Remove six V-belts (1) from the fan drive, the belt tightener, and the crankshaft pulley.
Illustration 2 g00596609
Disconnect hose assembly (3) from fan clutch shaft (4).
Illustration 3 g00596611
Disconnect two hose assemblies (5) and (6) from fan clutch shaft (4).
Illustration 4 g00596612
Attach a suitable lifting sling to fan drive (7). Secure the suitable lifting sling to a hoist.
Illustration 5 g00596616
Disconnect wiring harness (8) for the speed sensor at the electrical connection.
Remove four bolts (9) and the washers that secure fan drive (7) to shaft bracket (10).
Remove fan drive (7) from shaft bracket (10). The weight of fan drive (7) is 186 kg (410 lb). Installation Procedure
Install fan drive (7) in the reverse order of removal.
Use Tool (A) (not shown) in order to measure the belt tension. Refer to Specifications, "Belt Tension Chart" for the correct belt tension.
