Option A: Replace Piston Crowns, Recommended
Disassemble the engine. Remove the pistons.
Inspect cylinder walls and pistons
Replace all piston crowns.
Inspect piston pins and connecting rods for damage,and replace as needed. Inspect for heat dislocation or material transfer.
All parts replaced must be labeled with serialnumber, and cylinder location and returned to:

Reassemble engine using the new piston crownsand other components as required.
Dyno test the engine for power, and inspect forleaks.
Repaint the engine as required
Option B: Short-Term Delivery Needs Only
The preferred repair is to replace piston crowns.However, if the engine is already installed in the vessel, or the enginemust be delivered immediately, a dyno test may be used to confirm blowbymeasurements. For engines still in dealer inventory, the following dynotest procedure should be used to proceed with short-term delivery requirements.Blowby measurements should be recorded everyfive minutes to identify a possible upward trend in blowby.For engines that are currently installed inboats, operate the vessel in a manor that would duplicate the followingdyno test procedure while measuring blowby. The absolute maximum blowby measurementis 600 CFH.
Run the engine on the dyno to bring the engineup to full operating temperature.
Operate the engine at low idle no load and recordthe blowby measurement.
Operate the engine at high idle no load and recordthe blowby measurement.
Operate the engine at a 25% load factor for 15minutes, record the blowby measurements every five minutes.
Operate the engine at a 50% load factor for 15minutes, record the blowby measurements every five minutes.
Operate the engine at a 75% load factor for 15minutes, record the blowby measurements every five minutes.
Operate the engine at a 100% load factor for 45minutes, record the blowby measurements every five minutes.
Run the engine through a cool down cycle, andterminate the test.
If at any time blowby exceeds 600 CFH,stop the test and investigate possible causes. If the blowby numbers spikeup quickly anytime during the test, stop the test and investigate possiblecauses. Blowby should be stable at the end of the test. If Dyno test and investigation concludespiston replacement complete Option A. During the Dyno test watch the smokefrom the engine at all times. If the smoke changes to a white color shutdown the engine at once and inspect.
