Information:
Your engine can be equipped with water pump, fan drive, alternator, and accessory drive belts. For maximum engine performance and utilization of your engine, inspect the belts for wear and cracking. Check and adjust the belt tension to minimize belt slippage which will decrease belt life and cause poor performance of alternator, water pump, and any driven equipment. To check the belt tension, apply 110 N (25 lbs) of force midway between the pulleys. Correctly adjusted belts will deflect 13 to 19 mm (1/2 to 3/4 in).If new belt(s) are installed, check belt adjustment again after 30 minutes of operation. For multiple belt drive applications, always replace belts in matched sets. If only one belt of a matched set is replaced, it will carry more of a load than the belts not replaced since the older belts are stretched. The additional load on the new belt could cause it to break.Water Pump Belt Adjustment
1. To adjust the water pump drive belt, loosen mounting bolt (1) and bracket bolt (2).2. Move idler pulley in or out as required to obtain the correct adjustment.3. To make the correct adjustment, use a pry bar in the tightener pulley square hole in the mounting bracket.4. Tighten bolts (1) and (2).5. If a new belt is installed, check the belt adjustment again after 30 minutes of engine operation at rated speed.Alternator/Fan Belts Adjustment
1. To adjust the alternator/fan belts, loosen mounting bolt (3) and bracket bolt (4) on the alternator bracket.2. Move alternator in or out as required to obtain the correct adjustment.3. Tighten bolts (3) and (4). Alternator shaft nut must be tightened to 50 5 N m (37 4 lb ft).4. If new belts are installed, check the belt adjustment again after 30 minutes of engine operation at rated speed. Replace belts in matched sets only. If only one belt of a matched set is replaced it will carry more of a load than the belts not replaced since the older belts are stretched. The additional load on the new belt could cause it to break.Air Conditioner Belt Adjustment (If Equipped)
An incorrectly tensioned V-belt could cause not only a decrease of the compressor performance but damage to the belt and compressor.
1. Measure the deflection of the belt.2. Apply approximately 98 N (22 lb) force midway between the pulleys. The belt should deflect 7 to 10 mm (5/16 to 7/16 in).3. If the deflection is not correct, loosen nut (1) and turn bolt (2) in or out to adjust belt tension. When the adjustment is correct, tighten nut (1) to a torque of 55 10 N m (40 7 lb ft).4. Check the adjustment again.Final Drives
Check the Oil Level
1. Position one final drive with oil drain plug (1) at the bottom.2. Remove oil level plug (2).3. Oil should be to the bottom of the oil level plug opening.4. Add oil through the opening of the oil level plug, if necessary. Overfilling the final drive will cause the travel motor seals
