Schematic of the Winch Free Spool SolenoidNote: The approximate coil resistance of the solenoid is 20.9 ohms at 25 °C (77 °F).This diagnostic code is associated with the Winch Free Spool Solenoid. The FMI 03 means that the ECM has determined that the voltage of the solenoid circuit is above normal.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
Solenoid failure.
Solenoid circuit shorted to +VDC source.
ECM failure has occurred. ECM failure is unlikely.Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2268 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a Digital Multimeter for the measurements in the procedure.System Response:A level 2 warning will be generated.Test Step 1. CHECK SYSTEM VOLTAGE.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Remove the connector from the solenoid.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Measure voltage from pin 1 on the solenoid connector to frame ground. Expected Result:The voltage is 24 VDC +/- 1V.Results:
OK - The voltage is 24 VDC +/- 1V. Proceed to test step 3.
NOT OK - There is no voltage present. Repair: proceed to step 2STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FUSE.Check continuity of fuseExpected Result:Fuse is blown.Results:
Fuse is blown. - Repair: Replace fuse.STOP
Fuse is ok - Repair: Proceed to test step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK RETURN CIRCUIT FOR CONTINUITY.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
The machine harness connector remains disconnected from the ECM.
Disconnect the connector for the solenoid.
At the connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from contact 2back to the Implement ECM.
Connect the leads of the multimeter to the jumper wire and contact 13at the Implement ECM.Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to test step4.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The resistance measurement is not correct. There is an open circuit in the machine harness.Repair: Repair or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 4. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS STILL ACTIVE
Inspect and clean the harness connector contacts.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn on the disconnect switch and the key start switch.
Operate the machine.
Determine if the CID 2268 FMI 03 diagnostic code is active.Expected Result:The CID 2268 FMI 03 diagnostic code is active.Results:
YES - The CID 2268 FMI 03 diagnostic code is active. The problem has not been corrected. The ECM may have failed.Repair: ECM failure is unlikely. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Contact
