Remove the center drive shaft.
Remove the center axle shafts.
Remove the parking brake.
Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking.When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under a heavy component.Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the oil from the center differential and final drives. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

Disconnect hose assembly (1). Remove hose assemblies (2).

Disconnect hose assembly (3) and (5) and set to the side. Remove brackets (4) and set the hose assemblies to the side.

Typical Example
Position Tooling (A) and suitable cribbing under the center differential. The weight of the center differential is approximately 300 kg (660 lb).
Remove bolts (6). Reinstall four bolts (6) at Locations (X) to separate the center differential from the axle. Slowly remove the center differential from the axle and adjust Tooling (A) as needed. Installation Procedure
Install the center differential in the reverse order of removal.
Apply Tooling (B) to the contact surface of the axle housing.
