Push the button on breaker relief valve (1).
Slowly, loosen filler cap (2) on the steering hydraulic tank in order to relieve the pressure.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Remove steering oil filter (3).
Clean the filter mounting base. Make sure that the old filter seal is removed.
Lubricate the seal of the new filter with clean oil.
Install the new filter by hand until the seal contacts the filter mounting base. Note the position of the index marks on the filter in relation to a fixed point on the mounting base. Note: There are rotation index marks on each filter that is spaced 90 degrees (1/4 turn) away from each other. When you tighten the filter, use the rotation index marks as a guide.
Tighten all filters according to the instructions that are printed on the filter. For non-Caterpillar filters, use the instructions that are provided with the filter. Note: You may need to use a strap type wrench or a suitable tool in order to turn the filter to the amount that is required for final installation. Make sure that the installation tool does not damage the filter.
Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Check the machine for leaks and make any necessary repairs. Install the filler cap.
Check the oil level. Maintain the oil level within the green range of sight gauge (4). If necessary, add oil.
