Make sure that the mating surfaces of the seals and of the equalizer bar are smooth and clean. 138-8440 Component Cleaner can be used to clean the surfaces. Never clean the surfaces with gasoline, naphtha, or other solvents which leave a film.
After you clean the surfaces, apply 122-3781 Quick Cure Primer to the mating surfaces of the seals and of the equalizer bar.

Use tool (A) to install retaining ring (6) in the equalizer bar.

Use tools (B) to install the bearing until the bearing contacts retaining ring (6). Make sure that the bearing is oriented square to the bore before you apply pressure with tool (B) .
Use tool (A) to install remaining retaining ring (6) in the equalizer bar.

Apply 4C-9507 Retaining Compound to the outside surface of seals (5). Use tool (C) to install seals (5) in the equalizer bar.
Repeat Steps 3 through 6 on the other end of the equalizer bar.Installation of End Pins
Inspect the pins for wear and for damage. Remove any nicks and burrs.
The end pins and the new limited slip seals are a tight fit. Lubricate the mating surfaces of the seals and of the pin before assembly.
Install the pin.
Inspect the position of the seal after the installation of the pin. The nylon surface should not protrude from the steel ring of the seal.Maintenance of Equalizer Bar Assemblies
Service the equalizer bar after 250 hours of operation or every month.Single Passage
Remove the plug in the end of the equalizer bar assembly. Install a grease fitting in the lubrication passage. Add Caterpillar Multipurpose Grease (MPGM) until the joint seals begin to move. Remove the grease fitting and install the plug. Lubricate both end pin joints.Three Passages with Limited Slip Seals
Use a 8F-9866 Grease Gun or a lube system to add Caterpillar Gear Oil to the joint. Add oil until oil comes out of one of the two relief fittings. Lubricate both end pin joints.Cross Passages with Limited Slip Seals
Remove the large plug in order to provide access to the grease fitting. Use a 8F-9866 Grease Gun or a lube system to add Caterpillar Gear Oil to the joint. Add oil until oil is visible in the cross passage.
