Information:
Hydraulic System Checks
Listen for noise from the hydraulic pumps.Swing and Travel Parking Brake Checks
The operational checks can be used to find leakage in the system. The checks can also be used to find a valve or a pump that is not functioning correctly. Swing Parking Brake
Install a tee, a test port, and a pressure gauge in the hydraulic line for the swing parking brake release. Install a pressure gauge in the swing pilot circuit.
Gradually increase the swing pilot pressure. The swing parking brake should release and the pressure gauge should read at least 3500 kPa (500 psi) before the pilot pressure in the swing system reaches 600 kPa (87 psi).
After all implement functions are stopped, the pressure to the swing parking brakes should begin to drop after 8 seconds. Once the pressure drops below 600 kPa (87 psi), the swing parking brake is applied.Travel Parking Brake
Install a tee, a test port, and a pressure gauge in the hydraulic line for the travel parking brake release. Install a pressure gauge in the travel pilot circuit.
Gradually increase the pilot pressure in the travel system. The travel parking brake should release and the pressure gauge should read at least 3000 kPa (435 psi) before the pilot pressure in the travel system reaches 600 kPa (87 psi).
After the travel function is stopped, the pressure to the swing parking brakes should drop below 600 kPa (87 psi) within 8 seconds. This verifies that the travel parking brake is applied.Implement and Swing Cycle Times
The speed of the cylinder rod movement can be used to check the condition of the cylinders and the pumps.Note: If several of the cycle times are less than the times specified, the pump margin pressure settings or the pump destroking pressure settings may need adjustment.Note: Cycle time is defined as the time between the starting and the stopping of implement movement. Before checking the cycle times, the hydraulic cylinders must be free of trapped air. For information on purging air from the hydraulic cylinders, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "General Information".Engine Settings High idle ... 1810 20 rpm Oil temperature ... 40° to 60°C (104° to 140°F)Extension of Boom Cylinder
The following time is required to lift the boom from the ground level to the maximum height. On the Front Shovel, fully extend the stick cylinders. On the Mass Excavator, fully retract the stick cylinders and fully extend the bucket cylinders. Start with the bucket on the ground. Mass Excavator ... 12.0 0.5 sec Front Shovel ... 9.6 1.0 secRetraction of Boom Cylinder
The following time is required to lower the boom from the maximum height to the ground level. Start with the bucket at the maximum height. Mass Excavator ... 5.3 0.5 sec Front Shovel ... 4.5 0.5 secExtension of Stick Cylinder
The following time is required for full extension of the stick cylinders. Start with the boom up and the bucket in the curled position. Mass Excavator ... 8.0 0.5 sec Front Shovel ... 7.0
