Do not fill fuel filter with fuel before installing the fuel filter. Contaminated fuel causes accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Before you replace the secondary & third fuel filters, the primary fuel filter must be replaced. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Primary Filter - Clean/Inspect/Replace".
Park the machine on a level surface. Ensure that the parking brake is fully engaged. Lower the dump body and shut off the engine.
Raise the hood. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hood Control".

Use a strap wrench and remove fuel filters (1). Discard the fuel filters properly.
Clean the fuel filter bases.
Coat the seals on the new fuel filters with clean diesel fuel prior to installation.
Install the new fuel filters by hand. Do not use a tool for installation of the fuel filters. When the new filter base gasket contacts the fuel filter base, tighten the fuel filter by an additional 270°. Note: The fuel filter has indicator marks at every 90 degrees.
Prime the fuel system. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime".
Start the engine and check for leaks.
Lower the hood.
