Install bearing cups (10) in housing (9) .Note: The bearing cones should be clean and dry of any lubricating oil. Any oil on the bearing cones will affect the rolling torque readings.
Install bearing cone (8) in housing (9) .
Install lip seal (13) in housing (9) . The spring that is inside the lip seal must be installed toward the inside of the housing.
Apply Tooling (C) on seal boot (11) . Install seal boot (11) on housing (9) .
Position spindle (12) on the flange end. Lower housing (9) on spindle (12) until bearing cone (8) makes contact with the flange on the spindle.
Press bearing cone (4) on spindle (12) until a slight bearing end play of 0.102 0.025 mm (0.0040 0.0010 inch) is obtained. Measure the rolling torque of lip seal (13) , seal boot (11) and the bearing cones.
Press against bearing cone (4) until the rolling torque increases 1.4 0.3 N m (12.5 2.5 lb in) above the rolling torque that was measured in step 8. If the increase is greater than 1.4 0.3 N m (12.5 2.5 lb in) tap the end of spindle (12) .
Install washer (3) .
Apply Tooling (D) on the threads of bearing nut (2) . Use Tooling (A) to install bearing nut (2) on spindle (12) .
Rotate housing (9) and seat the bearings. Tighten bearing nut (2) to a maximum torque of 373 N m (275 lb ft). The assembly should have no end play. The rolling torque must increase 2.8 1.7 N m (25 15 lb in) above the rolling torque that was measured in Step 8. This procedure will produce a bearing preload of 0.038 0.013 mm (.0015 .0005 inch).
Tap the end of spindle (12) and check the rolling torque again.
Compare the rolling torques from Step 12 and Step 13. If the rolling torques are not equal bearing nut (2) must be torqued again.
Insert a punch through the hole in housing (9) and stake bearing nut (2) in two places.
Install the O-ring seals on plugs (6) and plug (7) . Install plugs (6) and plug (7) in housing (9) .
Install O-ring seal (5) on adapter (1) . Install adapter (1) in housing (9) .End By: Install the vibratory support. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibratory Support - Install".
