Monitor axle SOS as normal and watch for particlesduring normal axle oil changes. If SOS detects a significant increase iniron of 500 ppm or greater and/or particles are found during normal axleoil change inspect the final drive planet shaft for spalling. If spallingis found replace all twelve planet shafts on the machine.Note: Even if the planet shafts only spalledin one final drive group this program recommends and allows for rebuildingall four final drive groups.Reference RENR2183 - Disassembly and AssemblyManual.1. Clean the axle arrangement components andinspect components for any permanent damage where a planet shaft spallingfailure occurred. This includes cleaning all debris out of the axle housingitself. If a failure occurred on the front axle remove the service brakepiston housing to remove any debris that may have collected behind it.Not removing debris will cause wear damage to the new sleeve bearings andother axle arrangement components.2. Remove and discard the (12) 6T5545 dowels,(12) 1920814 or 2235836 planet shafts, (24) 5D3632 or 6Y9885 roller bearings,(12) 8K0067 spacers, and (24) 8X4552 thrust washers currently in the fourfinal drives.3. Clean and inspect the bores of the (12)1920816 planetary gears. Replace any planetary gears with new gears ifthe bore has pitting, spalling, or deep scratches.4. Assemble the final drives using the newcomponents provided. Assemble the finals in a clean work area. Clean theparts and lubricate the parts using clean power train oil before assembling.Dip the sleeve bearings in clean oil or completely coat the surfaces toensure the bearings don't rotate dry against the planetary gear bores orthe planet shafts.SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
