Check the fuse for the shift lever transmission control.
The fuse is located in the machine fuse panel.
Check the fuse for an open. The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:
The fuse is open. Proceed to 2.
The fuse is not open. Proceed to 3.
Check the harness.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the shift lever transmission control.
Take resistance measurements at the control module connector. Measure the resistance between contact 1 and contact 2.The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:
The resistance is less than 10,000 ohms. The battery wire (123-WH) has a short to ground. Repair the harness or replace the harness. Replace the shift lever transmission control fuse. The fuse is located in the machine fuse panel.
The resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms. There is no problem. Repeat 2.
The resistance is less than 10,000 ohms. There is a short in the shift lever transmission control. Replace the shift lever transmission control and replace the shift lever transmission control fuse.
Verify the battery voltage at the shift lever transmission control. The battery voltage is measured at the battery posts. The voltage at the shift lever transmission control must not vary from the battery voltage more than 0.5 VDC.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage at the connector for the shift lever transmission control. Measure the voltage between contact 1 and contact 2.The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:
The voltage at the shift lever transmission control varies from the battery voltage more than 0.5 VDC. The system voltage is not correct. There is a fault in the wiring. The fault may be in the wiring between the shift lever transmission control and the fuse. The fault may also be in the wiring between the shift lever transmission control and the ground stud. Repair the harness or replace the harness.
The voltage at the shift lever transmission control does not vary from the battery voltage more than 0.5 VDC. The system voltage is correct. The machine is not operating correctly. Proceed to Testing and Adjusting, "Diagnostic Indicator - Troubleshoot".
