Illustration 1.The positioning of the hose clamps is improved in order to prevent the implement lines from swinging to the side during operation. The new position of the clamps includes the addition of another clamp to prevent the hydraulic hoses from rotating in the clamp assemblies.
The new position of the clamp assemblies are effective on the M312 (6TL532), M315 (7ML1049), M318 (8AL1568, 6ES235) and M320 (6WL226) machines.
For the M312 and M315 that do not have a hammer and/or auxiliary high pressure function, a 146-2418 Clamp assembly, 143-1713 Plate (not serviced) and two 8T-5005 Bolts are installed.
For the M312 and M315 that are equipped with a hammer and/or auxiliary high pressure function, a 146-2418 Clamp Assembly, along with a 146-2417 Clamp Assembly, 148-6590 Plate and four 8T-5005 Bolts are installed.
For the M318 and M320 that do not have a hammer and/or auxiliary high pressure function, a 163-8222 Clamp Assembly, 139-2367 Plate (not serviced) and two 8T-5005 Bolts are installed.
For the M318 and M320 that are equipped with a hammer and/or auxiliary high pressure function, a 163-8221 Clamp Assembly, along with a 163-8220 Clamp Assembly, 139-2368 Plate and four 8T-5005 Bolts are installed.
Caterpillar recommends replacing the former hose clamps with the new clamps whenever service work is performed.
For previous machines, the installation of the new hose clamps in the correct location can only be performed on Caterpillar brand hoses. Refer to the following procedure to install the new clamps in the correct position.
Illustration 2. (A) Former clamp locations.(B) New clamp locations.1. Remove former clamp assemblies, if equipped. If the new clamp assemblies are already installed go to next step.2. Loosen clamps (1), (2) and (4).3. Move clamp (2) from the former position (A), to the new position (B).4. Move and align hose assemblies in the three clamps so that the hose loop is straight up and the distance between clamp (1) and clamp (4) are equal for all hoses.5. Install the new clamp assembly (3) including the plate and bolts to the new position (B).6. Tighten all bolts on the hose clamps. 35 N m (26 lb ft) for the M318 and M320. 15 N m (11 lb ft) for the M312 and M315. Inspect the two halves of the hose clamps for a gap. If a gap is present between the two halves, tighten the clamp until the gap is eliminated.7. Secure bolts with Loctite.
