Remove the cylinder head. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cylinder Head - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

The valve spring keepers can be thrown from the valve when the valve spring compressor is released. Ensure that the valve spring keepers are properly installed on the valve stem. To help prevent personal injury, keep away from the front of the valve spring keepers and valve springs during the installation of the valves.
Put spring (2) under compression with Tooling (A). Remove keepers (1). Remove Tooling (A), rotocoil assembly (3), and spring (2).
Remove valve (4).

Use Tooling (B) to check the condition of the springs. Refer to Specifications for the correct spring specifications.
Do Steps 1 through 3 for the remainder of the valves. Installation Procedure

Put clean engine oil on the valve stem. Install valve (4) and spring (2) in the head. Install rotocoil assembly (3) on the valve stem.
Put springs (2) under compression with Tooling (A). Install keepers (1) with the thicker end upward.
Remove Tooling (A). End By:
Install the cylinder head. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cylinder Head - Install".
