Connect the steering frame lock between the front and rear frames before working on the machine.Before operating the machine, place the steering frame lock in the stored position.Failure to place the steering frame lock into the stored position before operating can result in loss of steering.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The pilot oil filter is located under the torque converter access cover.

Remove the filter housing drain plug and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Use a wrench to remove the filter housing.
Remove and discard the used element.
Clean the filter housing with a clean, nonflammable solvent.
Clean the housing base.
Inspect the filter housing seal. Replace the seal if damaged.
Install a new element in the filter housing.
Clean and install the filter housing drain plug. Install the filter housing in the housing base.
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle.

With the bucket level on the ground and the oil cold, maintain the hydraulic oil level to the "FULL COLD" mark in sight gauge (1). With the oil at operating temperature, maintain the hydraulic oil level to the "FULL HOT" mark in sight gauge (1). Add oil, if necessary through the filler tube.
