Fuel Tank Cap and Fill Screen
Wash Cap and Screen
1. Remove the fuel tank cap.2. Inspect the cap gasket. Replace the gasket if it is damaged.3. Remove the retaining snap ring.4. Remove the screen.5. Disassemble the cap.6. Wash all the parts in clean, nonflammable solvent.7. Lightly oil the element. Assemble the cap.8. Install the screen, the retaining snap ring and the cap.Engine Crankcase Breathers
Clean
1. Stop the engine. Loosen the hose clamps (1) at both ends and remove the hose from the breathers.2. Loosen the breather retaining clamp bolt (2).3. Remove the clamp and the breather.4. Wash the breather in clean, nonflammable solvent.5. Install the breather and clamp. Tighten the clamp.6. Reconnect the hose and clamp to the breather. Tighten hose clamp.7. Remove and clean the breather on the other side of the engine, using the same procedures.Transmission Breather
Wash Breather
The breather is located on the right rear of the machine. 1. Remove the breather. Wash the breather in clean nonflammable solvent.2. Allow the breather to dry. Install the clean breather.Hoist, Converter and Brake Breather Element
Change Breather Element
1. Remove the cover and clean in clean nonflammable solvent.2. Discard the used element. Install a new element and cover.Transmission Charge and Lubrication Filters
Change Filters
1. Remove the transmission charge and lubrication filter housing drain plugs and drain the oil. Clean and install the drain plugs. Removing the drain plugs from the bottom of the filter housings may not drain the oil from the filters. When removing the housings and elements, be careful of hot oil.2. Remove the housings and elements. Discard the used elements.3. Clean the charge and lubrication filter housings in clean nonflammable solvent.4. Inspect the seals in the filter bases. If the seals are damaged, replace them with new ones.5. Install the new elements in the housings. Install the housings and elements. 6. Start the engine and run it at low idle. Check for leaks.7. Observe the oil level when the oil is warm, with the transmission in NEUTRAL and the parking brake engaged. 8. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark in the sight gauge.9. Add oil if necessary.Converter Charge Filter
Change Filter
Removing the drain plug from the bottom of the converter charge filter, may not drain the oil from the housing. When removing housing and element, be careful of hot oil. 1. Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the converter charge filter housing and drain the oil. Clean and install the drain plug. 2. Remove cover (1).3. Remove elements (2) and discard.4. Remove screen (3) from housing.5. Clean the converter charge filter housing in clean nonflammable solvent.6. Inspect the cover seal. If the seal is damaged, replace it with a new one.7. Install the screen and the elements in the housing. Install the cover.Brake Cooling Filter
Change Filter and Wash Breathers
1. Remove the brake cooling filter cover. If there is evidence of excessive brake material in the screens, have the brakes inspected and/or repaired.See your Caterpillar dealer for information and procedures.2. Remove and discard the screens.3. Remove the baffle.4.
