Use Tooling (E), Tooling (F), and Tooling (H), as shown. Press seal retainer assembly (38) on shaft (36) until Tooling (H) stops against the shoulder on shaft (36).

The rear wear sleeve (39) is color coded blue on the inner diameter of the sleeve. Apply Tooling (K) to the inside of wear sleeve (39) on shaft (36). Use Tooling (E) and Tooling (F), as shown. Press rear wear sleeve (39) on the shaft until rear wear sleeve (39) stops against the shoulder of the shaft (36). Wipe off excess sealant with a clean, soft cloth.

Apply Tooling (M) to the outer diameter of rear bearing (42) and in pulley adapter (11). Place suitable blocking under pulley adapter (11). Use Tooling (E) and press rear bearing (42) into pulley adapter (11). Install retainer ring (40).

Apply Tooling (K) to the outer diameter of rear oil seal (41) and in pulley adapter (11). Do not allow the seal lip to contact the sealant. Use Tooling (E) and press the rear oil seal into the bore. Tooling (E) will stop against the face of the pulley adapter (11). This will position the seal in the proper location.
Illustration 20 g01203607Note: Do not allow the seal lip on the pulley adapter to contact the bearing mount compound. Do not lubricate the components. The seal must be dry when the components are assembled.
Apply Tooling (M) to the inner diameter of rear bearing (42) and on shaft (36). Use Tooling (E) and Tooling (F), as shown. Press pulley adapter (11) onto the shaft. Do not allow the seal lip on the pulley adapter to contact the bearing mount compound. Do not lubricate the seal lip. After the components are assembled, spin the pulley adapter (11) on the shaft (36) to burnish the wear sleeve. Spin the pulley adapter (11) for approximately 25 revolutions.

Install ring and tube assembly (37) on shaft (36) in pulley adapter (11). The hole in the ring and tube assembly (37) must align with the oil outlet port in shaft (36). Install ring and tube assembly (37) with the pilot tubes in a vertical position when the fan clutch is mounted on the engine. Use Tooling (E), Tooling (F), and Tooling (H), as shown. Press ring and tube assembly (37) on the shaft (36).

Install retainer ring (35). Install hook-type seal rings (34). Rotate hook-type seal rings (34) to locate the split in the seals at 180 degrees across from each other.

Lubricate hook-type seal rings (34). Install O-ring seal (10) on front section (9). Assemble the front section (9) to pulley adapter (11). Install bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 23 4 N m (17 3 lb ft).

Install O-ring seal (8) and end cap (7). Apply Tooling (K) to the threads of bolts (6). Fasten end cap (7) with bolts (6). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 35 8 N m
