Introduction
This procedure should be performed if the machine continues to go straight when the transmission is in gear and one of the steering control levers is pulled back. The machine will turn when the other steering control lever is pulled. Step 1. Check sensors.a. Use the Caterpillar Monitoring System to preform a Steering/Brake Sensor Quick Check.Reference: Refer to Power Train Electronic Control System, SENR8367, "Component Data Display Mode" for additional information. Expected Result: The sensors operate properly. Results:* OK - Proceed to Step 2.* NOT OK - Replace the faulty steering/brake sensor. Check machine for original complaint. If conditions are not resolved, proceed to Step 2. Step 2. Check pressures.a. Operate the machine and attempt to steer in the problem direction.b. Move the steering lever back, to the detent, and measure the pressure for the steering clutches. Use pressure tap (F) the left hand steering clutch and pressure tap (J) for the right hand steering clutch.c. If the steering clutch pressure is less than 135 kPa(20 psi), the steering clutch has released. Now engage the brake pedal. Use pressure tap (G) for the left hand brake and pressure tap (H) for the right hand brake.d. If the brake pressure is less than 325 kPa(47 psi), the brake has engaged.

Results:* PRESSURES ARE CORRECT - Proceed to Step 3.* STEERING CLUTCH PRESSURE IS INCORRECT - Proceed to Step 4.* BRAKE PRESSURE IS INCORRECT - Proceed to Step 5. Step 3. Manually inspect the steering clutch/brake modules.a. Disassemble and inspect the steering clutch and brake modules.b. Check the seals, splines, and discs and plates for failure.c. Repair as required.d. Calibrate the steering clutch/brake modules using the procedure in SENR8367 "Power Train Electronic Control System".Reference: Refer to Power Train Electronic Control System, SENR8367, "System Calibrations" for additional information. Expected Result: The original complaint is resolved. Results:* OK - STOP.* NOT OK - The cause of the problem is uncertain, please call technical support with the information gathered so far. STOP. Step 4. Perform Steering Clutch Engaged And Will Not Release. Results:* REPAIRED, OK - STOP.* OK - Proceed to Step 5. Step 5. Perform Brake Will Not Engage. Results:* REPAIRED, OK - STOP.* OK - STOP.
