PROBLEM
The existing counterweight camera bracket insert may come out on certain M315D2 and M317D2 Excavators. If the existing insert is not reworked with welding, it may come out.

ACTION REQUIRED
1. Turn off the engine. Place the engine start switch in the OFF position. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
2. Connect the ground cable for the welder directly to the counterweight. Attach the clamp for the ground cable as close as possible to the area that is being welded. The ground cable will reduce the chance of damage from welding current to the components that follow: bearings, hydraulic components, and electrical components.
3. Remove the bracket bolts and check the insert situation. Refer to Image1. If the insert is broken, fabricate a new insert with material S235/Q235B. Refer to Image2.
4. Grind the paint around the insert and follow the requirements of Image3 in order to weld around the insert. Avoid excessive heating of the base metal. Protect the machined surfaces from sparks and the weld splatter.
5. Grind the finished surface of the welds. Use a brush or an air gun to remove any dust or any weld splatter.
6. Apply primer paint for corrosion control. Apply touch-up paint on the area with the repaired welds.
7. Remove the welding ground cable.
8. Install the camera bracket and tighten the bolt to a specified torque of 28 N.m.
