System Troubleshooting
Try to isolate the problem. Accumulate all of the pertinent information. When a diagnostic code is active perform the following:
Check for electrical connections that are loose or broken.
Cycle the power to the system.Zsnap
A Zsnap captures diagnostic information from the machine including system configuration, error logs, and CAN data.Note: Any time an issue occurs take a Zsnap as close to the event as possible.
Illustration 1 g03825636To take a Zsnap, swipe up from the bottom right corner to the top right corner of the screen on any display from any screen.Note: If this action is completed correctly, an icon with a camera and the text Zsnap will appear on the screen. Refer to Illustration 1.Complete a USB Sync to download the Zsnap to send to product support. The Display does not Power Up
Check the cable and connections into the display.
Check the left tow point connector on a AP10xxx machine or the left machine control connector on the screed.
Check the machine fuses.Automatic Controls are Unstable
If the grade indicators for one or both sides of the screed are erratic, check the stability of the appropriate sensor outputs.
Monitor the output of the sensor. In the "2D Sensor Checks" data.
With machine not running, look at the live sensor data to see if data is relatively stable. If live sensor data is erratic in this state, check sensor, sensor connections, and cables. Swap components if any are available.
Check the on-grade deadband setting. Caterpillar recommends 3.0 mm for the elevation and .05% for the slope for most applications. These numbers can be increased for more stable control.
Ensure that the sonic sensor is not setup for "Stringline Mode" when you are referencing a surface.
Elevation or slope valve speeds are set too high. Decrease valve speeds.
If the problem persists, contact your technical communicator for a possible consultation with Caterpillar.Display is Showing "--.-" Instead of a Value
Sensor has been connected but not selected. Select desired sensor.
Sensor icon is shaded red. A red shaded sensor is an indication that the sensor was connected and now is not seen by the system. Check the harnesses. Swap the sensors. Check the "Sensor Connectivity" screen.
The sensor network is powered by the 24 V to 12 V converter. Check to be sure that sensor has power and ground.
If the sensor does not operate and the icon is still red, contact your technical communicator for a possible consultation with Caterpillar.Diagnostic Code Displayed
The display may show various types of fault codes. If the system is not correcting for errors, ensure that all the following enabling conditions are met:
Propel mode set to "Pave"
Grade and Slope timer is set appropriately
Screed in float
Illustration 2 g03821815Yellow banner messages are specific to the Grade Control system. The messages will be stored in the "Configuration","Diagnostics", "Error Log" menu. A yellow banner message is shown in Illustration 2.
Illustration 3 g03821831Machine faults that are related to the paver or screed may appear with icons. Refer to Illustration 3. The information for faults is stored in the machine health menus for the paver and screed. Refer to OMM and troubleshooting
