CAN A (J1939-1) Data Link
Attachment CAN (J1939-2) Data Link
Adaptive Control System (ACS) CAN Data LinkCommunications between the major CPM electronic components, at a high level, are described as follows:
The "Machine ECM" (3), the Monitor (5), "CGC/CPM" ECM (12), "Yaw Rate Pitch/Roll" Sensor (13), Cat® ET (16), and the "Product Link" ECM (14) all communicate with each other via the "CAN A (J1939-1) Data Link" (11).
The Operator Controls (Switches/Sensors) (1) and other electronic devices in the hydraulic system are monitored and powered by the Machine ECM. Usually, machine input components send signals to the Machine ECM, which then controls the machine output components.
The "ACS Valve" ECM's communicate with the Machine ECM over the "ACS CAN Data Link" (8).The machine electronic control system controls most of the machine, engine, and attachment functions of the hydraulic excavator. The system shown above uses the F Series monitor. Other excavator electronic control systems are similar to the system illustrated above. The ECM modules communicate over three data links. The individual systems are described below:Machine CAN Data Link - This data link generally allows communication between ECM modules, the Operator Monitor, and the Switch Panel module.SAE J1939 Data Link - The SAE J1939 Data Link is a high-speed data link. The SAE J1939 Data Link is used for high-speed communication between the Machine ECM and the control modules of other machine systems.Cat® ET is used to diagnose system and component problems and to flash software into the programmable ECM modules via the Cat® Data Link and/or the "CAN A (J1939-1) Data Link". The "F" Series monitor allows the programmable ECM modules to be flashed using a USB memory device plugged into the back of the monitor. If the dealer adds an attachment controlled by a separate ECU or ECM, the attachment controller can communicate with the Machine ECM via the Attachment "CAN (J1939-2) Data Link" (10). That information can then be shared with the Engine ECM, the Monitor, and other ECMs connected via the "CAN A (J1939-1) Data Link" and/or the Cat® Data Link. For example, Cat® Grade Control uses the "Attachment CAN (J1939-2) Data Link" (10) to communicate with the Machine ECM and the other CGC-related components and sensors.Note: "Comm Adapter III" (15) must be used with the "F" Series machines. "Comm Adapter II" does not support the newer ECM modules and data links. The "Grade Control" and "Production Measurement" modules use two different data links for communication, the "CAN A (J1939-1)" and "Attachment CAN (J1939-2)" Data Links.
