Connections of the 8 VDC power supply
The CID 0041 diagnostic code is associated with the 8 VDC sensor power supply. The FMI 03 diagnostic code is recorded when the Power Train ECM reads the voltage of the sensor supply circuit (wire C985-BU(Blue)) as higher than normal. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The voltage supply is shorted to the +battery circuit in the harness.
A component that uses the supply has failed.
The ECM has failed. An ECM failure is unlikely.Note: Ensure that the CID 0041 FMI 03 is active.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the problem has been corrected. Verify that the CID 0041 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT A SENSOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from one of the sensors.
At the machine harness connector for one of the sensors, measure the voltage between contact A(wire C985-BU(Blue)) and contact B (wire J766-PU(Purple)). Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 8.0 0.5 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is 8.0 0.4 VDC. The voltage is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is greater than 8.0 0.5 VDC. The measurement is not correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR A SHORT TO THE +BATTERY CIRCUIT.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors from each of the components that are supplied by the 8 VDC power supply. The components are indicated in the illustration at the beginning of this procedure.
Disconnect the J1 and J2 machine harnesses from the ECM.
At the harness connector J1 for the Power Train ECM, check the resistance from power supply contact J1-44 C985-BU(Blue) to all of the other contacts that are used in connectors J1 and J2 for the Power Train ECM. Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The supply circuit is not shorted to another circuit in the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - One or more of the resistance measurements is less than 5000 ohms. The harness has failed.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY AT THE ECM
The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position.
At ECM connector J1, use a 151-6320 Removal Tool to remove the supply wire and the socket. Remove the wires at contact J1-44 (wire C985-BU(Blue)) and contact J1-45 (wire J766-PU(Purple)) from the connector. The machine harness connector J1 remains connected to the ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Check the voltage at the connector of the ECM from contact J1-44 (sensor supply) to contact J1-45 (ground). Use the
