Connections of the 8 VDC power supply
The CID 0041 diagnostic code is associated with the 8 VDC sensor power supply. The FMI 04 diagnostic code means the Power Train ECM reads the voltage of the sensor supply circuit (C985-BU(Blue)) and the voltage is below normal. The following conditions may cause this diagnostic code:
A sensor that is powered by the power supply has an internal short.
The sensor supply circuit is shorted to a ground source.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely.Test Step 1. CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY AT THE ECM
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Check the voltage at the connector of the ECM from contact J1-44 (sensor supply) to contact J1-45 (ground). Use the 7X-1710 Cable Probes to measure the voltage. Do NOT disconnect the machine harness from the ECM. Expected Result:The voltage is 8.0 0.5 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage is 8.0 0.5 VDC. The sensor supply voltage is correct. Verify that the diagnostic code is present. If the diagnostic code is still present, the ECM has failed.Repair: An ECM failure is unlikely. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Also, recheck if the diagnostic code is active. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - Voltage is NOT 8.0 0.5 VDC. The voltage is less than 8.0 0.5 VDC. The sensor supply voltage is NOT correct. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE SENSORS
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position. DO NOT START THE ENGINE.
While observing the status of the diagnostic code, disconnect each component that is powered by the 8 VDC sensor power supply one at a time. These components are indicated in the illustration at the beginning of this procedure. Expected Result:The CID 0041 FMI 04 diagnostic code is no longer active when one of the components in the supply circuit is disconnected. Results:
OK - The CID 0041 FMI 04 diagnostic code is not active when one of the components in the supply circuit is disconnected. The power supply circuit is correct. The sensor that was disconnected when the diagnostic code cleared has an internal short circuit.Repair: Repeat this test step in order to verify which component is causing the problem. Replace the component that is causing the problem.STOP
NOT OK - The diagnostic code is still active. Disconnecting the components in the circuit did not affect the status of the diagnostic code. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK THE HARNESS
At the machine harness connector J1 for the Implement ECM, use a 151-6320 Wire Removal Tool to remove the sensor supply wire C985-BU(Blue) and socket at contact J1-44 from the harness connector.
Observe the CID 0041 FMI 04 diagnostic code. Expected Result:The CID CID 0041 FMI 04 diagnostic code is no longer active. Results:
OK - The CID 0041 FMI 04 diagnostic code is no longer active. The
