Left Feeder Mode SwitchThe left feeder mode switch has two inputs to the ECM: OVERRIDE and OFF. During normal operation, one of the inputs is open and the other input is returned (grounded). When a circuit is measured with a multimeter, an open circuit will measure 5 DCV and a grounded circuit will measure approximately 0 DCV. Diagnostic code CID 003 FMI F12 is recorded when both switch inputs are grounded at the same time.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are:
The OVERRIDE signal circuit is grounded.
The OFF signal circuit is grounded.
The left feeder mode switch is failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Note: Your vehicle may have a screed that is equipped with an extender. On these vehicles, an additional left feeder mode switch is provided at the left screed extender operator panel. This additional switch is wired in parallel with the switch on the left screed operator panel. A diagnostic condition with the additional switch and it's wiring could also produce the CID 003 FMI F12 service code. Troubleshoot this additional switch in a similar manner as described in this CID 003 FMI F12 procedure.System Response:The results of this diagnostic code are:
The feeder diagnostic lamp is ON
The auger and the conveyor for the left side will not operate. Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code CID 003 F12 is "on hold" and that the diagnostic code is active. If the diagnostic code is not active, toggle the switch until the switch is in the position where the diagnostic code is active.Test Step 1. Check OVERRIDE Signal Circuit This step checks the resistance of the OVERRIDE signal in the machine harness and the switch.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from contact 25 (wire P928-BU) to contact 39 (wire P201-GN).Expected Result:With the switch in the AUTO or OFF positions, the resistance should measure greater than 5000 ohms. With the switch in the OVERRIDE position, the resistance should measure 5 ohms or less.Results:
OK - The resistance measurements are as expected. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance measurements are not what is expected.Repair: The switch or the machine harness is malfunctioning. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. Check OVERRIDE Signal Circuit This step determines whether the OVERRIDE signal circuit of the switch or the machine harness is malfunctioning.The key switch remains OFF.
Disconnect wire P928-BU and wire P929-BR from the switch.
At the switch, measure the resistance between the OVERRIDE signal circuit terminal and the return signal terminal. The OVERRIDE signal circuit terminal is terminal 1. The return signal terminal is terminal 2.Expected Result:With the switch in the AUTO or OFF positions, the resistance should measure greater than 5000 ohms. With the switch in the OVERRIDE position, the resistance should measure 5 ohms or less.Results:
OK - The resistance measurements are as expected.Repair: The machine harness is not correct. Either the return circuit (wire P201-GN) or the OVERRIDE circuit
