Start By:a. separation of track
Before doing any service work which requires separating a track, a thorough inspection of the front track roller frame must be made. See Special Instruction, Form No. SMHS8273-02.
Typical Example1. Remove the bolts that hold the grab iron and step to the radiator. Remove grab iron (1) and the step as an assembly. 2. Remove plug (3), and drain the oil from the track roller frame.3. Remove bolts (2) and cover (4) from both sides of the rear track roller frame. 4. Use tooling (A), and remove guides (5) from both sides of the rear track roller frame. 5. Put a 50 ton screw jack in position under the main frame as shown. Lift the front roller frame approximately 25 mm (1 in.) to release the pressure in the bogie pads.
Typical Example Tool (B) is installed after the front roller frame has been lifted approximately 25 mm (1 in.).6. Install tool (B) on the front bogie as shown.
(Later Machine) 7. Fasten tool (C) to the front roller frame and a stationary object. Fasten a hoist to front roller frame (6) as shown.8. Use the hoist and tool (C) to pull the front roller frame part way out of the rear track roller frame. 9. Put tool (D) in position to protect the seal. Remove the front roller frame from the rear track roller frame. The weight of the front roller frame is approximately 1959 kg (4320 lb.). 10. If necessary, remove bearing (7) from front roller frame (6).
Earlier Machine
Later Machine On earlier track roller frames, seal (10) is a lip-type seal. On later track roller frames, seal (10) is a "limited slip" seal.
The seals may be damaged if they are removed from the track roller frame.
11. Remove seal (10) (earlier or later), lip-type seal (8) and bearing (9) from the rear track roller frame.Install Front Roller Frames

Typical Example1. Install bearing (9) and lip-type seal (8) in the rear track roller frame. Install the seal with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the rear track roller frame as shown.2. Make sure the seal bore in the rear track roller frame is clean and free of dirt, oil and old adhesive.3. Put 7M7456 Bearing Mount on the seal bore. If seal (10) was removed, replace the seal (earlier or later) with the "limited slip" type seal.4. Use tool (E) to start installation of seal (10), and tool (F) to finish installation in the rear track roller frame. Install the seal with the oil side toward the inside of the rear track roller frame. When the seal is fully installed, there will be a 5 mm (.197 in.) gap between the seal inside diameter and the track roller frame.5. Put clean SAE 30W oil on the lip of seal (8) and the inside diameter of seal (10). 6. Cut tool (D) to make a tight fit inside seal (10) when the ends of tool (D) are put together.7. Put tool (D) in position in
