Typical Example1. Disconnect lubrication lines (1) from each end of the tie rod.2. Loosen nuts (3) until they are even with the end of the ballstud.3. Put a jack under the nuts and ballstuds, and apply force to them. Hit the socket area where the ballstuds are seated with a hammer to break them loose from their tapers.4. Remove locknuts (3).5. Use Tooling (A) to remove the ball stud. Refer to M0080743, Tool Operating Manual, Ball Stud Breaker for the correct procedure to remove the ball stud. Repeat this step for the remaining tie rod ball studs.6. Use Tooling (B) to support the weight of tie rod (2). The weight of tie rod (2) is approximately 103 kg (227 lb.). Remove tie rod (2). The following steps are for installation of the tie rods.7. Put 2P2506 Thread Lubricant on the threads and taper of the ballstud.8. Fasten tie rod (2) to a floor jack. Put the tie rod in position, and install two nuts (3). Tighten the nuts to a torque of 2550 100 N m (1880 75 lb.ft.).9. Connect lubrication lines (1) to each end of the tie rod.10.
