Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping Freon-12 (C C12F2 Dichloro Difluoro Methane) can cause freezing of human flesh.Do not smoke while working on air conditioning systems. Inhaling Freon-12 through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can generate phosgene gas and cause violent illness. Also, heat must never be applied to a charged system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system.
1. Release the pressure in the air conditioning system. See the topic, Purging The System, in Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334. 2. Remove three bolts and guard assembly (4) from the front of the air conditioning compressor.4. Disconnect two wires (1) from the air conditioning compressor.5. Remove the bolts that hold air conditioning compressor (3) to the bracket, and remove the compressor. The following steps are for installation of the air conditioning compressor.8. Put air conditioning compressor (3) in position on the bracket, and install the bolts that hold it in place.9. The belt tension reading should be 120 5 for a new belt or 90 10 for a used belt.11. Connect two wires (1) to the air conditioning compressor.12. Put guard assembly (4) in position, and install the bolts that hold it in place.13. Connect hose assemblies (5) and (6).14.
