Connections of the Transmission Lock Switch
This diagnostic code is associated with the Transmission Lock Switch. The FMI 04 means that the ECM has determined that both circuits are grounded. Refer to Table 1. The switch is connected to two inputs of the ECM. One contact is open and the other contact is grounded during proper operation.Possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
A switch signal is shorted to ground.
A switch has failed.
The ECM has failed. This situation is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all the connections in the circuit are clean and secure. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0348 FMI 04 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.

Locked Closed Open
Unlocked Open Closed System Response:The Transmission Lockout is disabled.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SWITCH.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the switch.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.Expected Result:The FMI 04 has been replaced by FMI 03.Results:
OK - The FMI 04 has been replaced byFMI 03. The machine harness and the ECM are correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The FMI 04 is still active. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
The machine harness remains disconnected from the switch.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the ECM.
Measure the resistance between contacts J2-44 (wire T909-YL(Yellow)) and J2-47 (wire T908-BU(Blue)) of the machine harness to all contacts used in machine harness connectors for the ECM.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
YES - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The ECM has failed. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - One or more of the resistance measurements are less than 5000 ohms. The harness has failed. The short is between J2-44 (wire T909-YL(Yellow)) and the circuit with the lowest resistance or between J2-47 (wire T908-BU(Blue)) and the circuit with the lowest resistance.Repair: Repair the wiring harness or replace the wiring harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE SWITCH.
The machine harness remains disconnected from the switch.
Place the switch into the UNLOCKED position.
Connect one lead from a multimeter to contact 5 (wire A273-BK(Black)) of the harness connector for the switch.
Connect the other lead from a multimeter to contact 4 (wire T908-BU(Blue)) of the harness connector for the switch.
Measure the resistance between contact 5 (wire A273-BK(Black)) and contact 6 (wire T909-YL(Yellow)).
