Customers complaining of an E360 (3) Low Engine Oil Pressure Code.Solution
If a complaint for an E360 (3) Low Engine Oil Pressure Code is reported on a C13 commercial or machine engine, refer to the following troubleshooting steps.
Do not start the machine upon arrival. Hook up with Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) and view the snapshot of the E360 (3) Low Engine Oil Pressure Code. Look at the engine speed and oil pressure of when the code tripped.
If no oil pressure or minimal oil pressure is observed, proceed to Step 3.Note: If the oil pressure is noted, but a little lower than the minimum oil pressure, refer to Troubleshooting, UENR0955, "Oil Pressure is Low".
Check the engine oil level. If the oil level is good, proceed to Step 4.
Remove the oil pump for inspection. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, UENR0131, "Engine Oil Pump Remove and Install".
Once the oil pump is removed, examine the oil pump gear to shaft press fit joint. If the gear has spun on the shaft, replace the oil pump. Save failed parts and send back to Caterpillar for failure analysis.
Remove the oil filter and cut the filter open to look for debris. If a significant amount of debris is found, contact your local Technical Communicator (TC).
Obtain a Schedule Oil Sampling (SOS) to verify the wear metal and engine oil viscosity count.
Monitor the SOS closely on units that the oil pump has failed on to watch wear metals.
Check the oil pressure to make sure that oil pressure is within specification.
If oil pressure is within specification, return the unit to service.
