Install the lifting brackets on the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Lifting Bracket - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Illustration 1 g00921920Note: Mark the positions of supports (4) and shims (5). The engine supports on the right side are attached to plates (6) on the generator base by dowels (1). Dowels (1) must be removed before the mounting supports can be removed.
Use Tooling (A) to remove dowels (1).
Attach a suitable lifting device to the lifting brackets. The weight of the six cylinder engine is approximately 15 650 kg (34,500 lb). The weight of the eight cylinder engine is approximately 20 412 kg (45,000 lb). Note: The weight is ONLY for the engine.
Loosen bolt (2).
Remove bolts (3) that hold the engine supports to the base.
Lift the engine enough in order to place a nylon strap around the support. The weight of each support is approximately 64 kg (141 lb).

Remove bolts (8) that hold the support (4) to the cylinder block.
Tap support (4) with a large plastic hammer in order to disengage dowels (7) from the cylinder block.
Remove support (4) from the side of the cylinder block.
If necessary, remove dowels (7) from engine support (4). Installation Procedure

If dowels (7) were removed from support (4), install dowels (7). Dowels (7) should extend 20.0 1.0 mm (0.79 0.04 inch) above the surface of support (4).
Put the support in the correct position on the cylinder block. Install the bolts (8). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 1125 100 N m (830 75 lb ft).

Install shims (5) in the regular location.
Lower the engine onto plates (6). Install bolts (3).
Install dowels (1) through engine support (4) and into plate (6) on the right side of the engine.
Check the alignment between the engine and the driven equipment. End By:
Remove the lifting brackets from the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Lifting Bracket - Remove and Install".
