Note: Before applying tension to the belts, make sure that adjustment lever (3) is in the neutral position. There should be no free play between setscrews (2) and the tab on the roller frame.
Slowly apply tension to the belts. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Track -Tension/Detension".
After tension has been applied to both belts, perform Step 3.
The following steps are used for the alignment of the belts, when the machine is on a hard surface that is level.
Apply the belt tension. Drive the machine for fifteen to eighteen minutes. The road should be paved and level. Do as little steering as possible.
Stop the machine. Immediately record the maximum temperatures of the inner side walls of the idler. Record the inboard temperature and the outboard temperature. If the difference between the inboard temperature and the outboard temperature is greater than 4.4 °C (40 °F), proceed to Step 3.c. The belt is aligned if the difference is less than 4.4 °C (40 °F).
If the outer idler is the highest temperature, loosen locknuts (1) and back inside setscrew (2) outward by one-fourth of a turn. Turn outside setscrew (2) inward by one-fourth of a turn.
Tighten both setscrews (2) to a torque of 55 10 N m (41 7 lb ft). Tighten locknuts (1) to a torque of 160 15 N m (120 11 lb ft). If the inner idler is the highest temperature, loosen locknuts (1) and back outside setscrew (2) outward by one-fourth of a turn. Turn inside setscrew (2) inward by one-fourth of a turn.
Tighten both setscrews (2) to a torque of 55 10 N m (41 7 lb ft). Tighten locknuts (1) to a torque of 160 15 N m (120 11 lb ft). Note: Do not turn setscrews (2) more than one-fourth of a turn at a time.
