E 2P-8301 Seal Guide 1 Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the assembly procedure, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble.
Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear of damage. Replace the components, if necessary.

Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.
Use Tool (C) (not shown) in order to install seal assembly (11) into head (3), as shown.
Use Tool (C) (not shown) in order to install U-cup seal (10) into head (3), as shown. Note: Prior to installation of lip seal (9), apply 4C-4032 Bearing Mount Compound to the lip seal groove.
Use Tooling (D) in order to install lip seal (9) into head (3), as shown.

Use two 7/8 inch - 9 NC bolts in order to position head (3) onto cylinder assembly (4).
Align piston rod (1) with head (3). Install Tool (E) (not shown) onto piston rod (1).
Use Tooling (A) in order to push piston rod (1) through head (3) and into cylinder assembly (4).
Remove two 7/8 inch - 9 NC bolts in order to separate head (3) from cylinder assembly (4). Use Tooling (A) in order to separate piston rod (1) and head (3) as a unit from cylinder assembly (4).
Remove Tool (E) (not shown) from piston rod (1).

Install seal assembly (8) onto piston (5), as shown.
Install wear ring (7) onto piston (5), as shown.

Position piston (5) onto piston rod (1), as shown.
Lubricate the threads of locknut (6). Install locknut (6) onto piston rod (6). Use Tooling (B) in order to tighten locknut (6) to a torque of 2200 220 N m (1622.6 162.3 lb ft).
Remove Tooling (B).

Use Tooling (A) in order to position piston rod (1) and head (3) into cylinder assembly (4) as a unit.
Install four bolts (2) and the washers. Do not tighten four bolts (2) at this time.
Failure to follow the recommended procedure or the specified tooling that is required for the procedure could result in damage to components.To avoid component damage, follow the recommended procedure using the recommended tools.
Use Tooling (A) in order to fully extend piston rod (1).
Tighten four bolts (2) to a torque of 620 80 N m (457 59 lb ft).

Remove the steering cylinder from Tooling (A). End By:
Install the steering cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Cylinder - Assemble".
