Mark the harness assemblies for installation purposes.

Disconnect harness assembly (1) and (2) from alternator (3) .

Disconnect ground cable (4) from alternator (3) .
Remove nut (5), (11), and (13) .
Remove guard (9) from alternator (3) .
Remove outer nut (7) from bolt (8) .
Loosen the inner nut (not shown) on bolt (8) until the alternator belt can be removed from the alternator pulley.
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the alternator. Remove bolts (6), (10), and (12) and alternator (3). The alternator weighs approximately 16 kg (35 lb).
If alternator bracket (14) must be removed, disconnect the grease line junction block. Remove the alternator bracket.Installation Procedure

Install the alternator bracket (14) .
Install the grease line junction block if the junction block was removed.

Position alternator (3) on bracket (14) and bolt (8). Position the alternator belt on the alternator pulley. Install bolt (10), bolt (12), and outer nut (7). Do not tighten nut (7) .
Install guard (9) and nut (5) and (13) on bolts (6) and (12). Do not tighten nut (5) and (13) .
Use the inner nut (not shown) on bolt (8) to adjust the tension of the alternator belt. Use a BT-33-95 belt tension gauge from Borroughs Tool Company or an equivalent part in order to check the tension of the belt. The correct belt tension is 535 22 N (120 5 lb) for a new belt and 400 44 N (90 10 lb) for a used belt.
After the proper belt tension has been obtained, tighten nut (5) and (13). Tighten outer nut (7) .
Connect harness assemblies (1) and (2). Connect ground cable (4) .Note: After the wires are connected to the alternator, tighten the nut that secures wire (2) to a torque of 7.0 0.8 N m (62 7 lb in). Tighten the nut that secures ground cable (4) to a torque of 6 1 N m (55 5 lb in).
