Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin. At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Drain the coolant from the jacket water cooling system on the right side. The jacket water cooling system contains approximately 360 L (95.1 US gal) of coolant.

Remove fuel transfer pump (3). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1461-01, "Fuel Transfer Pump - Remove" and Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1461-01, "Fuel Transfer Pump - Install" for the correct procedure.
Disconnect harness assembly (4) .
Loosen the hose clamp that holds the hose in place on elbow (5). Move the hose away from the elbow.
Remove bolts, water line adapter (1), and tube (2) from the engine. Remove the O-ring seal from tube (2) .

Remove bolts and elbow (7) from the top of the oil pump and tube (6) .
Remove the bolts. Disconnect elbow (8) from the bottom of the oil pump.

Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to support oil pump (9). Remove the bolts that hold oil pump (9). Remove oil pump (9) from the pump drive. The weight of oil pump (9) is approximately 39 kg (86 lb).
Remove O-ring seal (10) from the pump drive.Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Disassemble" and Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Assemble".
