Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
When a linkage position sensor becomes short to ground, the machine stops. All of the joysticks and the pedals will become disabled. The joysticks and the pedals use the same 10V power supply from the Machine Electronic Control Module (ECM). The hystat pumps will go to minimum displacement and the parking brake will be applied.Solution
One of the following fault codes will occur when there is a short in one of the position sensor:
1964-03 Lift position sensor with above normal voltage
1965-03 Tilt position sensor with above normal voltageFor 953D (S/N: LBP700-UP) And 963D (S/N: LCS700-UP)

963D (S/N: LCS700-UP) (1) Jumper harness for the lift cylinder (2) Jumper harness for the tilt cylinderUnplug the harness for the sensor from inside the frame. This will remove the short. This will also allow the machine to operate. Then find the shorted wires. If the sensor wires are shorted, a new sensor may be required if the wires can not be repaired. If the harness is damaged, a new jumper harness can be purchased from parts stock.For 953D (S/N: LBP1-699) And 963D (S/N: LCS1-699)
Note: There is not a jumper harness from the sensor to the main harness for these machines.The sensor needs to be unplugged from the harness. If the machine is locked out and the sensor can not be disconnected from the harness, then the line from the main harness to the sensor will need to be cut inside the frame. This will remove the short. This will also allow the machine to be operated. Then find the shorted wires. If the short is a sensor wire, a new sensor may be required if the wires can not be repaired. To finish the repair, make a jumper harness and connect the jumper harness to the main harness with a 3-pin Deutsch connector. A length of 3-wire bulk harness and a Deutsch repair kit will be required.
