Information:
1. Block the rear wheels. Turn the start switch off and disconnect the batteries. 2. Use the lever extension from the machine tool kit to fully lower the front suspension. Hold the lever in the "lower" position until the hissing noise stops, indicating that the accumulator has completely drained.Lower the rear suspension in the same way. 3. Remove the axle drain and level plugs (1 and 2) and drain oil into a suitable container. Clean and install the plugs. 4. Drain the air system.5. Remove the blocks from the trailer wheels and loosen (do not remove) the wheel nuts. 6. Disconnect the brake lines (3) and remove line (4). Plug the lines and wheel cylinder ports. 7. Disconnect the drive shaft (5) from the differential input flange (6) and compress the drive shaft sliding joint. 8. Remove the suspension height sensor rod. 9. Remove the axle breather hose. 10. Support the trailer frame with stands (7) placed in front of the axle.11. Raise the axle and suspension frame on a transmission jack, place stands under the axle and remove the wheels.12. Block the front of the suspension frame to ensure it does not tilt when the pivot pins are removed. 13. Remove the nuts (8) and washers. 14. Remove the bolts (9) and withdraw the frame pins. Note the number of shims, if any, under each pin flange.15. Remove the axle stands and lower the axle and suspension frame. Carefully move the assembly clear of the trailer frame. Differential and Final Drive bearing adjustment is described in Service Manual Module HENR 8167, "Specifications for Articulated Dump Truck Power Train", which is in the POWER TRAIN section of the Service Manual. Installation of the axle and suspension frame is the reverse of the removal procedure.Remove Axle (Two Axle Trailers)
The following procedure describes the removal of the rear axle. The procedure for removing the center axle is similar.START BY:Relieve Drive Line Torque Wind Up. 1. Block the rear wheels. Turn the start switch off and disconnect the batteries. 2. Use the lever extension from the machine tool kit to fully lower the front suspension. Hold the lever in the "lower" position until the hissing noise stops, indicating that the accumulator has completely drained. 3. With the lever on the suspension valve held in the "lower" position, open the flow control valves (1) and allow the rear suspension to lower. When fully down, close the flow control valves. 4. Remove the axle drain and level plugs (2 & 3) and drain oil into a suitable container. Clean and install the plugs. 5. Loosen, but do not remove the wheelnuts.6. Raise the trailer slightly, position adjustable stands (4) between the axles and lower the trailer onto the stands.7. Position a transmission jack under the back axle, raise the axle and support with stands (5) placed under each side of the "A" frame (not the axle).8. Remove the wheels.9. Use blocks (6) to hold the axle in place and prevent it from turning
