Information:
Extend the hydraulic cylinder enough to compress the recoil spring so the recoil spring retainer can be turned. Close the 1S-8937 Valve. Turn the pump valve to the position that allows the cylinder rod to retract. The 1S-8937 Valve will stop the cylinder rod from retracting.
Rotate recoil spring retainer (13) counterclockwise with Tooling (B) to move the recoil spring retainer out of the roller frame 12.7 mm (0.50 inch). Slowly release the cylinder pressure through the 1S-8937 Valve in order to allow the recoil spring to extend 12.7 mm (0.50 inch). The measurement should be taken on the hydraulic cylinder. After the hydraulic cylinder retracts 12.7 mm (0.50 inch), close the 1S-8937 Valve. Repeat this step until the hydraulic cylinder is 6.4 mm (0.25 inch) from being fully retracted.
When the hydraulic cylinder is near the fully retracted position, turn recoil spring retainer (13) clockwise to hold the recoil spring. The action will permit the force to be removed from the hydraulic cylinder. Retract the hydraulic cylinder.
Illustration 2 g00746343Note: Tooling (A) and Tooling (C) are almost identical. The differences are in the 9S-9076 Spacers (1) and the number of 9X-8268 Washers (8).
Install Tooling (C) according to the following steps in order to remove the recoil spring.
Remove 8T-1757 Nuts (7), 2S-9077 Spacers (5), and 9S-9076 Spacers (1) from studs (10).
Install 9S-9077 Spacers (5), 9X-8268 Washers (8), and 8T-1757 Nuts on 9U-7692 Studs (10). Adjust nuts (10) until the nuts are equal distance from the surface of the track roller frame.
Extend 6V-3160 Hydraulic Cylinder (4) until 8M-4856 Sleeve (12) contacts the plate in the front track roller frame.
