The Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) service tool is a software program that is used to access machine data. Use Cat ET when performing machine maintenance. Some Cat ET options are:
View diagnostic codes (See Troubleshooting, "Using Caterpillar Electronic Technician to Determine Diagnostic Codes")
View active and logged event codes
View parameter status
Clear active and logged diagnostic codes
Perform calibrations
Flash electronic control modules (ECMs) (This process is done with the WINflash program, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program")
Print reportsFollowing are some service tool functions:
Display ECM system failures
Display input and output status
Display ECM settings
Display input and output parameters status in real time
Display internal diagnostic clock hour
Display number of occurrences and the clock hour of the first and last occurrence for each logged diagnostic code
Display logged diagnostic code and event definitions

Typical Cat® ET screen for logged events
An indicator for logged events is provided and allows tracking of intermittent event codes. The logged event data includes:
Event Identifier (EID)
Problem description
Number of problem occurrences
Time stamp will display the problem first occurrence
Time stamp will display the problem last occurrence Status Groups For Cat ET
The status groups are lists of machine parameters and are shown in real time.
