The main components of the hydraulic fan system are hydraulic tank (9), fan pump (4), fan motor (3), oil cooler bypass valve (7), hydraulic oil cooler (1), and Engine ECM (8).Fan pump (4) draws oil from hydraulic tank (9).Fan pump (4) sends oil to fan motor (3) through to oil cooler bypass valve (7).The fan speed is controlled by Engine ECM (8). Engine ECM (8) uses inputs from engine air inlet air temperature sensor, coolant temperature sensor, and hydraulic oil temperature sensor, to determine fan speed. Engine ECM (8) adjusts the current to the pump compensator valve. The pump compensator valve controls the pressure of the oil that is sent to fan motor (3). When a higher pressure is maintained, fan motor (3) turns faster. Fan pump (4) will increase flow to maintain the desired pressure. The oil from the outlet side of fan motor (3) flows through oil cooler bypass valve (7), hydraulic oil cooler (1), and full flow return filter (10) in hydraulic tank (9). Case drain oil from fan pump (4) and fan motor (3) flow through case drain oil filter (5) to hydraulic tank (9).When the hydraulic oil is cold, the flow will bypass hydraulic oil cooler (1). This cold oil flows out of fan motor (3) to oil cooler bypass valve (7). If the oil is below 49° C (120° F) oil cooler bypass valve (7) will send oil directly to hydraulic tank (9). After the hydraulic oil warms above 49° C (120° F), oil cooler bypass valve (7) will begin to send oil to hydraulic oil cooler (1). Once the oil has reached 63° C (145° F) the oil will flow through hydraulic oil cooler (1) to keep the oil at operating temperature. Oil cooler bypass valve (7) limits the maximum oil pressure in hydraulic oil cooler (1) by opening as pressure increases in hydraulic oil cooler (1). When the temperature of the oil increases, the pressure of the oil decreases. The force of the spring in oil cooler bypass valve (7) is greater than the force of the oil pressure acting on the spring. the spring will close oil cooler bypass valve (7). Fan speed sensor (11) provides a signal to the Engine ECM . The Engine ECM controls fan speed by varying the current to the demand fan supply solenoid. The demand fan supply solenoid controls the speed of the hydraulic fan.Hydraulic fan (2) provides cooling air flow across the cooling system.
