PREPARING TO REMOVE IDLER GEAR AND IDLER GEAR SHAFT
1-Idler gear shaft. 3-Idler gear.3. Attach a sling and hoist to the idler gear (3) to prevent the gear from falling when the shaft (1) is pushed out.4. Using a 1H3107 Push Puller with two 939A Legs and the 7F9540 Hydraulic Puller with the 6F25 Pump Group, push the idler gear shaft from the idler gear and housing as shown.
When the shaft is pressed out of the housing, it will fall into the lower housing unless it is supported.

1. Remove the upper shaft group. See the covering topic.2. Remove the planetary reduction gear. See the covering topic.
1-Sun gear and shaft assembly. 2-Astern driven gear and spacer ring. 3-Baffle. 4-Retainer. When installing the baffle, be sure the two bolt heads in the center of the baffle are facing to the rear. Reversal of these bolts will cause interference with the planet carrier.3. Remove the plate on the front end of the lower shaft.4. Install two sets of wedge blocks with a 5H6816 Stud, two 1B4205 Nuts and two 4B4280 Washers between the ahead driven gear and the housing web, one set at the top of the gear and the other at 180° from the first set. See the topic, FABRICATION OF WEDGE BLOCKS.5. Tighten the wedge blocks until they fit snugly between the gear and housing web. The wedge blocks will "bottom out" the gear against the web omitting the necessity of pulling against the web.6. Using a 7F9540 Hydraulic Puller, a 6F25 Pump Group, an 8B7548 Puller, 8B7550 (4 1/2") Legs, knurled adapters and a liner puller assembly with a 5F7362 Adapter Plate and without the three-way head, start to pull the shaft from the housing.
