1. Loosen the tank cap to remove all pressure from inside the steering hydraulic tank. Remove the cap after all pressure has been released. Move to steering wheel in both directions several times with the engine off to remove any additional pressure. Put plugs in all hydraulic hose and cylinder openings to prevent foreign material from entering the steering system. Also, do not turn the steering wheel while the hoses are disconnected or it will be necessary to drain the steering hydraulic tank. 2. Disconnect steering cylinder hydraulic hose (1) from the head end and hose (2) from the rod end of steering cylinder (3). 3. Remove the cotter pin, and loosen nut (5), but do not remove it. Do this at both ends of the steering cylinder to be removed.4. Put tool (A) under the ballstuds and apply force. Push against the loose nuts (5) to avoid causing damage to the ballstud threads.5. With the load applied, hit stud socket (4) with a hammer. The ballstud will come loose. Do this at both ends of the steering cylinder. 6. The weight of the steering cylinder is 51 kg (112 lb). Fasten tool (B) to steering cylinder (3), and remove the steering cylinder from under the vehicle. Be sure the cylinder is fastened to tool (B) prior to removal. 7. Remove ring (9) and cover (10) from the steering cylinder end. Remove seal (7) from the ball stud.8. Attach a hoist to the cylinder, and position the cylinder end in a press.9. Position a suitable piece of pipe over ball stud (6) and against race (8).10. Press the ball stud and race out of the steering cylinder.11. Repeat steps 6 through 9 for the remaining ball stud. The following steps are for installation of the steering cylinder.12. Press ball stud (6) and race (8) into the cylinder ends. Install cover (10) and ring (9) on each cylinder end. Install each seal (7) with no lubricant.13. Apply 4C5593 Anti-Seize Compound to the taper of the ball studs. Use tool (B) to position the steering cylinder on the machine with the ball studs in their respective sockets, and install nuts (5). Tighten nuts (3) to a torque of 1350 N m (1000 lb ft). If the cotter pins cannot be installed, tighten the nuts to the next slot, and install cotter pin.14. Install the cotter pins that hold nuts (5).15. Install hoses (1) and (2) to the steering cylinder.16. Fill the steering system hydraulic tank with oil to the correct level. Refer to the Operation And Maintenance Manual for further information.17. Start the machine. Turn the wheels full right and full left several times to remove the air from the steering hydraulic system.18. Check the level of oil in the steering system hydraulic tank again.Disassemble Steering Cylinders
